Holy Spirits is a new cocktail bar & bottle shop open in the heart of midtown Sacramento. With a dark, moody aesthetic to the brand and interiors, Holy Spirits is intended to feel mysterious yet approachable for patrons in search of a high-end cocktail and spirit selection.

THIS916 is Sacramento’s premiere live music and event series offering the people of Sacramento a way to enjoy local artists as well as some of the biggest names in house music. THIS is Midtown started as a free monthly outdoor block party and has expanded to 2 monthly events and larger venues, offering acts that rival those of neighboring cities.

In 2021, after surviving the event lull thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, THIS was looking to refresh their look and expand, booking even bigger acts and drawing larger audiences. We created a fun, pop-inspired illustrative brand focused on summer colors and themes. We successfully created a recognizable and unique look that doubled audiences and engagement.

On top of redesigning the logo for the concert series, many hours were spent creating social and marketing materials to promote each event. This included hundreds of social posts, dozens of artist frames, posters, a suite of merchandise and event signage and graphics for use at the events.

In 2022, we again refreshed the brand with a lighter, cleaner appearance and more delicate details than the previous year. I dedicated a number of hours to a piece of art that paid a heavy homage to the city of Sacramento and acted as the centerpiece for the entire event series, expanding into more events and bigger acts than ever before. We expect this year to be our proudest achievement to date.

Propagate Sacramento is a shop with humble yet solid roots. Starting as a pop-up plant seller and then finally realizing the dream of opening a brick and mortar location in 2019, owner Alli Okumura is no stranger to branding her business.

Working first with Alli in 2019, we reached a solution that seemed appropriate for her new shop. Update her existing brand and scale it to fit her beautiful new location at 1700 I Street. We created a classic, butcher-shop and general-store inspired look and window signage that would invite even the least plant-savvy people inside.

As time passed and Propagate grew tremendously both in its space and its following, Alli again enlisted me to help her realize her new dream. Turning Propagate into a personality, one that could make it not only a Sacramento staple, but a destination for plant-lovers and admirers. We took the existing signage off the windows in late 2020 and launched a new look in early 2021 that was completely unique to Propagate.

Leaning heavily into the moody colors of the shop’s architecture, stained-glass window panes, and look of a bygone era, I created a style of illustration that Propagate could claim as their own. This new look was intended to help the shop reach its next level of growth by allowing them to sell more lifestyle items alongside their core line of plant products.

Love Child is a vegan-inspired food & juice bar featuring a variety of vegan alternatives and cold-pressed juice cocktails. The owner and myself worked closely together to create a brand that was nothing but funky retro vibes, that felt hip and warm but carried a cheeky spirit.

vhcle holdings is the corporate restaurant & events group responsible for some of Sacramento’s most popular and unique attractions. As the art director for vhcle holdings, I oversee most art, design, media & branding for all banners under the vhcle holdings umbrella. Our brands are in the culinary, bar, hospitality & event spaces and include existing brands like Low Brau, Beast & Bounty, Milk Money, Holy Spirits, Love Child, THIS 916 & more. We are a small but mighty team that runs operations, design, marketing & events in house.

The Sacramento Craft Brewer’s Guild hosts an Annual Beer Week, and they requested I create the branding and look for 2022. I loved creating this twist on very typical imagery of both craft brewing and the capitol city’s iconic Tower Bridge. Branding I created was used throughout the week’s events, from merch designs and marketing materials to tasting glasses and beer labels, the branding I created was featured at every official 2022 event.

The entire intention of the brand is to promote unapologetic artistic and creative expression. Pairing this with the chicken design, we created something that is in your face and 100% doesn’t give a Bawk.

Working closely with the owners Rob Archie & Peter Hoey, I took an existing logo & crafted a custom brand for Urban Roots that carries their message of traveling, self-love & positivity. I created everything from their food and beer menus to the exterior mural in the beer garden. They aimed to create a cartoon vibe that showed the fun-loving nature of their brand and avoid a lot of common design tropes.
